Nowadays we are spoilt for choice when it comes to the so called healthy foods and their recent marriage to convenience foods.Browsing the net for fruit powders I found a delicious powder here:

Sounds good huh? All the hard work is done for us. Health at your doorstep! Eating healthily is possible and cheap.
Boy, was I wrong!
This powder costs £10 X 100 g!
Which means £100 - US$152 per kg!!!!!
That's $69 USD per lb.
This is how much we are asked to spend for a strawberry powder from an average company. (Some are cheaper, some a tad more expensive than the one above.)
I wen into 'Back to Basics' mode and tried to make my own version. Here is the result.
If you want to save ££$$ and make your own, go ahead, you deserve it!
Ingredients:
- a blender jar full of your favourite fruit (no added water or juice)
- a dehydrator
- baby jars for storage
Instructions:
- Make your favourite smoothie
- Pour it on reflex sheets in your dehydrator (I spread coconut oil on them)
- Dehydrate until you achieve a perfectly dry and crisp fruit leather (8 hours or overnight will do)
- Pour the dry fruit leather in the blender and mix until you achieve a fine powder
- Store it in your favourite jars (plastic, glass, whatever you fancy)
- Use it when you want an instant smoothie or a fruit powder for cooking etc.
Rehydration:
Pour the powder into a glass of water and mix very well until all the lumps are gone.
If you have a blender nearby it will be easier…
P.S.
If you store your powders in a cool and dry place they can remain dry for a months. However, if there is any humidity they will become a bit sticky (but still edible - I tried tomato powders a year later being sealed in a special pouch and they were still perfectly edible, although all stuck together!)

What could you do with fruit powders?
The list is endless!
- Add to smoothies/juices
- Add to cakes and ice-creams
- Mix with natural yoghurt or coconut oil and apply it as a facial mask if it's a type of fruit that is beneficial to your skin
- Mix with fruit and nut balls, cereal bars
- Add to breakfast muesli…
What else can you create with your powders?
Have a radiant day!
